Strong partners. Strong performance. Made in Germany.

KOSTAL and VARTA, two long-standing German companies, offer an efficient combination of inverters and battery systems.

Innovation from Germany perfectly combined

Solar specialist KOSTAL Solar Electric and traditional battery manufacturer VARTA offer an attractive and efficient package for greater self-sufficiency and to relieve the power grids. Thanks to close collaboration between the development departments of both companies, seamless compatibility between PLENTICORE G3 and VARTA.wall has now been established. The communicative connection to the PLENTICORE is established via RS485, while the high-voltage connection is achieved with a classic DC cable, as is also used for the solar modules.

The VARTA.wall is based on proven lithium-ion technology. The VARTA battery storage system can be operated with two (10 kWh) to four modules (20 kWh) and, depending on the PLENTICORE model, offers an output of up to 10.5 kW at 26 A discharge current. This product combination is the first choice for quality-conscious users who value ‘made in Germany’.

PLENTICORE G3 – Setting the standard in flexibility and performance

The PLENTICORE G3 hybrid inverter is available as standard in three power classes: S, M and L. The world's first here is the option of being able to expand each of these three models by two further power classes by activation via PLENTICOIN. This means that the capacity of the PV system can be expanded at any time, effortlessly and sustainably.

The S version offers 4 kW and can be expanded to 5.5 or even 7 kW AC output power using PLENTICOIN. The M model starts at 8.5 kW and can be expanded to 10 or 12.5 kW. The most powerful class, L, offers 15 kW and provides 17.5 and 20 kW through power expansions.

There are also expansion options in the hardware area, because the PLENTICORE G3 has a backup power function. In conjunction with the KOSTAL BackUp Switch and a connected battery storage unit, this ensures the power supply in the event of a power failure. And to protect against induced surges that can enter from the solar module side, the separately available DC surge protection (type 2) ensures the necessary security.

Space-saving, flexible and efficient – the VARTA.wall

The DC high-voltage battery from VARTA offers a modular system that generates its 10, 15 or 20 kWh storage capacity from the latest 21700 NCA round cells. The unique selling point of the VARTA.wall is its minimal depth of 10 cm, which makes it extremely space-saving. The VARTA.wall is IP 55 certified, which qualifies it for wall mounting in both indoor and garage areas. The 10 kWh base model consists of two battery modules that can be expanded to three or four modules up to a total capacity of 20 kWh. Configuration and setup are user-friendly and can be carried out via the integrated WIFI hotspot and the VARTA APP. The integrated VARTA battery management ensures maximum efficiency and guarantees safe and reliable operation.

KOSTAL and VARTA – a winning combination for home users

Teamed up with KOSTAL inverters from the PLENTICORE G3 series, the result is an efficient team that can keep a single-family home with a PV system, heat pump and electric vehicle with an annual power consumption of 4,000–30,000 kWh safe and secure and cost-effective throughout the year.

Senior Product Manager Thomas Garber at KOSTAL Solar Electric says of the partnership: ‘We have been in contact with VARTA for quite some time. The AC systems were a first joint step towards successfully combining inverters and storage systems. Now, with the new DC system, we have reached a further stage where we can set premium accents in the high-voltage sector.

KOSTAL's efforts to provide flexible and efficient technology that also takes into account future developments are a very good match for VARTA's goal of introducing a new generation of stationary storage systems. The first DC high-voltage battery storage system from VARTA, which is currently being established, is the prelude to a large number of future VARTA storage systems that are particularly focused on energy-autonomous living. This harmonises very well with our range of services,’ says Garber.
